Belmond is adding Monaco to the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express schedule for the first time. The inaugural overnight journey will run from Paris to Monte Carlo on 10 May 2027, with prices starting at €4,870 per person.
The first Venice Simplon-Orient-Express journey from Paris to Monte Carlo will leave on 10 May, travelling overnight towards the Côte d’Azur before arriving at Monaco-Monte-Carlo station the following morning.
Belmond says the Paris-to-Monte Carlo journey will become an annual part of the schedule. Monte Carlo will also become a stop on selected Venice Simplon-Orient-Express journeys continuing from Paris to Venice.
Prices start at €4,870 per person, based on two people sharing a Historic Cabin. The fare includes the overnight journey, 24-hour steward service, meals with wine selected by the sommelier, soft drinks and transfers.
Accommodation ranges from Historic Cabins to Suites and Grand Suites. At the top end is L’Observatoire, a private carriage created with the French artist JR, with a bedroom, en-suite bathroom and freestanding bath, living area, library and concealed tea room.
Dinner is served in one of two restaurant cars, Étoile du Nord and L’Oriental, followed by drinks and live piano music in Bar Car 3674. Breakfast is served in guests’ cabins the following morning as the train reaches the French Riviera.
The route runs along the Côte d’Azur through Saint-Raphaël towards Cannes and Nice before reaching Monaco. Belmond currently lists an estimated 3pm departure from Paris and a 10.35am arrival in Monaco the following morning.
Monte Carlo also has a connection to the modern history of the train. In 1977, businessman James Sherwood paid $104,000 for two original 1920s railway carriages at an auction there. Over the following five years, he located more than 20 additional carriages across Europe and restored them. The revived Venice Simplon-Orient-Express made its inaugural journey in May 1982.
“There’s also something rather special about coming back to Monte Carlo, given the role it played in the train’s history,” said Pascal Deyrolle, Belmond’s Area Managing Director for Trains in Continental Europe.
The Monte Carlo route joins the second year of Belmond’s Villeggiatura by Train programme in 2027, which combines journeys on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express with stays at Belmond hotels in Italy.
