There’s something about a long-distance train journey that invites the mind to wander—if you can shut out the usual bustle of daily life, the gentle rhythm of the rails almost begs you to relax. Unfortunately, for most, train travel is more about the journey’s end than the ride itself. The tight schedules, the cramped seats, the constant shuffle of commuters—it's hardly the stuff of romance.

But what if rail travel could be more than just a means of getting from one place to another? What if, instead, the journey itself could become the ultimate luxury experience? That’s exactly what Belmond is offering with the introduction of the Britannic Explorer, the first luxury sleeper train to traverse the landscapes of England and Wales.

Launching in July 2025, the Britannic Explorer will embark on three-night journeys from London, offering a selection of routes that will highlight some of Britain’s most spectacular scenery. Guests will have the choice of venturing into Cornwall’s dramatic coastal beauty, experiencing the pristine wilderness of the Lake District, or exploring the unspoiled landscapes of Wales.

Each of these routes is designed to offer an immersive experience, with the option to explore regional highlights through guided excursions. It’s not just about getting to a destination; it’s about enjoying every aspect of the experience, from the moment you step aboard.

This is a far cry from the typical train experience. Inside the Britannic Explorer, guests will find a harmonious blend of British elegance and contemporary design. The 18 cabins—comprising three Grand Suites and 15 Suites—have been meticulously designed by Albion Nord to evoke both comfort and style. With expansive windows framing the landscape as it passes by, the cabins provide a peaceful retreat after each day of exploration, where luxury and rest go hand in hand.

Dining aboard the Britannic Explorer is a highlight in itself. Michelin-starred chef Simon Rogan, celebrated for his innovative culinary approach and global acclaim, will curate the menu. Expect fine dining that celebrates the best of Britain’s regional produce—fresh, seasonal ingredients cooked with passion and precision. With eight Michelin stars and two Michelin Green stars to his name, Rogan’s food will be as much a feast for the eyes as it is for the palate.

In addition to the dining experience, the Britannic Explorer boasts an inspired Victorian apothecary-themed bar, offering a curated selection of cocktails and spirits. For those seeking an additional moment of respite, the train features a wellness suite designed to help guests unwind and recharge after a day of sightseeing or simply to relax as they continue their journey.

Excursions are a key part of the experience. Each stop offers an opportunity to discover the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of the region. Explore the breathtaking views of the Welsh hills on foot, take a swim in one of the Lake District’s many serene lakes, or visit the Hauser & Wirth gallery in Somerset for a more cultural experience. These bespoke activities, guided by local experts, allow passengers to connect with the landscape in a way that goes beyond what any ordinary trip could offer.

The Britannic Explorer joins a distinguished portfolio of Belmond’s iconic British trains, including the British Pullman and the Royal Scotsman, adding a new dimension to the luxury rail experience. With its refined interiors, impeccable service, and thoughtfully designed itineraries, it continues Belmond’s legacy of offering world-class travel experiences that marry heritage with modern elegance.

Launching in July 2025, the Britannic Explorer will transform the concept of rail travel into something far more meaningful—where every aspect of the journey is a celebration of British luxury.

This is an invitation to slow down, indulge, and rediscover the joy of travel in its truest form.
